Dr. Jesse Barber (He/His)

Dr. Jesse Barber (He/His)

Professor and Curator in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology and the Chief Conservation Scientist at the AMNH and Research Professor at Boise State University Jesse arrived at Boise State in 2011. He received his B.S. at the University of Wyoming in 1998, M.S. at the University of Wyoming in 2002, and his Ph.D. at Wake Forest University in 2007. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Colorado State University.

Carlos Garcia Linares (He/His)

Carlos Garcia Linares (He/His)

PhD candidate at Boise State University Carlos received his MS from Sherbrook University in Canada and his BS from Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana in Mexico City, Mexico. Carlos is interested in how insects are responding to light pollution and is currently studying moth population trajectories under experimental light pollution treatments in the Pioneer Mountains of Idaho. carlosgarcialina@u.boisestate.edu

Brandt Quirk-Royal (She/Her)

Brandt Quirk-Royal (She/Her)

Lab Manager, Boise State University Brandt joined the Barber lab in 2019. She graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Since then she has had many field jobs including working with reptiles, amphibians, raptors and small mammals. brandtquirkroyal@boisestate.edu

Jade Anderson (She/Her)

Jade Anderson (She/Her)

Masters student at Boise State University Jade Anderson graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Biology degree in 2021. She subsequently worked as a laboratory technician for the Barber Lab, and began her masters degree in January of 2022. She is currently focused on uncovering how luna moth hindwing tails alter the sonar behavior of attacking bats, with broader interests in echolocation, predator-prey interactions, and cognition.

Clare Throm (She/Her)

Clare Throm (She/Her)

Masters student at Boise State University Clare Throm graduated with a B.S. in biology from BSU in 2023. She started in the Barber Lab as a research technician starting in 2020 collecting field data on various projects throughout the western United States. Clare worked as a wildland firefighter in 2023 and began her masters studies following the field season. Her interests center in understanding the acoustic ecology surrounding wildland and prescribed fire with a specific focus on bats.

Pamela Rivera (She/Her)

Pamela Rivera (She/Her)

PhD candidate at Boise State University Before joining the Barber lab in 2021. Pamela received her BS from Pontificia Universidad CatĆ³lica del Ecuador, where she created the first bat call library of Ecuador. She later received her MS from Rutgers University and New Jersey Institute of Technology, analyzing flight changes in moths in response to bats calls. She is interested in studying the mechanism of how hindwing tails of moths act as acoustic decoys.

Dr. Michela Corsini (She/Her)

Dr. Michela Corsini (She/Her)

Postdoctorate at Boise State University She attended Bologna University(B.S.), Florence University (M.S.), and Warsaw University (PhD), and a year as a postdoctoral visiting fellow at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology before joining the Barber Lab in 2022 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Her postdoctoral research focuses on the effects of light pollution on moths, bats and people. michelacorsini@boisestate.edu website: www.michelacorsini.com

Dr. Brian Leavell (He/Him)

Dr. Brian Leavell (He/Him)

Postdoctorate at Boise State University Before his current post in the Barber Lab as a postdoc, Brian obtained his BM at Berklee College of Music, worked in the Barber lab for a stint, and earned his PhD at Purdue University. Currently, he is investigating the effects of wildfires on bat community ecology. If you were wondering, Brian's favorite bat is the Pallid Bat (Antrozous pallidus)!

Greta Holliday (She/Her)

Greta Holliday (She/Her)

Field Technician In May 2023, Greta completed her BS degree in biology at Boise State University. She joined the Barber Lab in the summer of 2023 as a research assistant, focusing on insect identification. Today, she serves as a leader of the insect identification team and participates in a variety of other research projects within the lab. Her primary interest lies exploring insect ecology, specifically in the context of understanding the consequences of human activity on wildlife.

Jane

Jane

Jane is our newest lab member. She is interested in everything, but especially toy bats, moths, and birds.

Birdie and Fern

Birdie and Fern

Birdie and Fern. Birdie joined the Barber lab back in 2021 and takes her duties of lab cuddler very seriously. Birdie is the lab's very own live in therapy dog! Fern joined the lab in 2023 and is learning from Birdie how to be a lab dog. When they aren't working hard in the lab, they live with Brandt.
