Welcome to the Sensory Ecology Lab at the AMNH! Our research lens looks through fundamental ecological and evolutionary theory toward applied solutions. Understanding the umwelten of other species – the worlds other animals perceive – can provide critical insight into ecology, evolution, and conservation. Our research program on sensory ecology and sensory pollution focuses on understanding how information flow structures biological systems and how this knowledge can be used to protect populations and communities. We are committed to bending the curve of biodiversity loss, to protecting animal diversity in the natural world, and to advancing diversity in science.
